April Lockhart

April Lockhart, born in 1995 on the 4th of July, began taking lessons on piano and guitar at seven years old. She was interested in creating songs was sparked. In the seventh grade she began to take guitar and piano classes. The lessons sparked her passion to write songs. At the age of 14, April spent a lot of time to writing song ideas and practicing her music. Then, she began going in NY and LA with her Dad to help them compose songs. April began including other topics in her book Take My Hand to help her friends who were dealing in the face of peer pressure, disability or even suicidal thoughts. Lockhart has become a sought-after lifestyle influencer as well as working in partnerships with clean beauty brands Ilia and YSL, has cultivated her own audience. Her birthplace didn't come with a left hand, and that is what makes her the person she is. It's just not all the facts. The profile of Lockhart on Twitter does not conceal her being disabled and does not make a point of it. It's a reminder. There is more to us than the physical person we are. Our identities are multifaceted and encompass a variety of dimensions. Lockhart talks via video in Nashville. "I don't intend to let it define my life. I do not want to be merely recognized as an expert in disabilities. This doesn't interfere with my life. All is well and I've learned how to adapt. It's a big element of my life and it's imperative to talk about the subject. Self-acceptance can be a marathon for a lifetime however Lockhart truly inspires me in this regard. She admits that she's been through periods of being uncomfortable with her body and sometimes not being confident in wearing certain types of clothing that showed the arms of her. Now she wears whatever outfit she wishes and shares pictures on her Facebook page with pride. The journey itself is what I'm not certain that will ever be the end of self-love. This is a process, and I'm not sure you'll ever get there. It is important to have people around you who are aware of and understand the way you feel.
